Overview: Paradigm Mechanical Corp. installed three Rooftop Air Handling Units with associated chilled water piping. This building was designed and built specifically to be a central emergency center if a natural disaster occurs. Two of the units that were replaced service the 24/7 911 Dispatch center for San Diego County and the third unit services the California Highway Patrol Supervisors. The third unit provided temporary cooling to ensure the Supervisors were able to stay online during the project. Each unit was installed with new modulating water valves integrated with the Carrier controls and Economizers with Power Exhaust on VFD’s which will greatly reduce the energy consumption of the building while providing a longer in-service life of the Air Cooled Chillers. The new equipment aligns with the overall objective of the building to ensure that San Diego County emergency assistance employees will have an air-conditioned space to support those in need if a natural disaster was to occur.
